ISCM festival “World New Music Days” 2013 in Slovakia and Austria.

 

This year ISCM festival “World New Music Days” was going in three towns  - Košice, Bratislava (Slovakia) and Vienna (Austria).

 

Festival started at the 5. of Nov. in Košice, which was the Capital of Culture in Europe this year. In Košice lives around 250 000 inhabitants and it is located in East of Slovakia. The Old center of town is small, but beautiful and it is possible to walk through in 20 - 30 minutes. Outside this area starts the multistage living area, which reminds Soviet times architecture and style...

 
Congratulations to Mārtiņš Viļums!

During the Great Music Award 2012 ceremony at the Latvian National Opera on February 19, Mārtiņš Viļums' composition Tvyjōraan, first performed by Sinfonietta Riga at the Great Guild Hall on November 3, was awarded as the best new composition of 2012.

Mārtiņš Viļums says: "Tvyjōraan in my self-invented language means "Phenomena". The Composition is probably not easily framed in the traditional sense of form (symphony / chamber symphony). Rather, it may be called a symphonic portrayal.This is one of my subjective compositions, whoes ideas and sounds that shape the process is based on the life of the different worlds touches marked by mental visions."

Congratulations to our members - The Great Music Award 2012 nominees!

The Great Music Award (GMA) is the highest prize given by the Latvian state in the field of music. Musicologist Arnolds Klotiņš will receive the special award for outstanding contrubution to the research of Latvian Music History, for his research and resulting book Mūzika okupācijā. Latvijas mūzikas dzīve un jaunrade 1940 - 1945 (Music During the Occupation. Latvian Music's Reality and New Works 1940-1945).

In the category The New composition of the year is nominated:

* Ruta Paidere Tempera (First performance: 10th March 2012 at the Great Guild Hall in Riga, festival The New Latvian Music Days/ by Sinfonietta Rīga, conducotor Normunds Šnē);

* Kristaps Pētersons Otrais Liepājas koncerts(Second Liepaja Concerto) (First performance: 21st September 2012 at the Liepaja Latvian Society/ by Kristīne Blaumane (violoncello), Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, conductor Atvars Lakstīgala);

* Mārtiņš Viļums Tvyjōraan (First performance: 3rd November 2012 at the Great Guild Hall in Riga/ by Sinfonietta Rīga, conducotor Normunds Šnē).

The Great Music Award (GMA) ceremony and concert will be held on February 19, 2013 at the Latvian National Opera in Riga. The Award ceremony will be broadcast live on Latvian Radio 3 and telecast on LTV Channel 1.

 
CD "New Music from Latvia 2012" is released!

In collaboration with LMIC the CD New Music from Latvia 2012 is released.

It includes the latest compositions by the following composers- Santa Ratniece, Andris Dzenītis, Santa Bušs, Kristaps Pētersons, Anitra Tumševica, Gustavs Fridrihsons, Ruta Paidere, Maija Enfelde, Selga Mence and Rihards Dubra.

 

Compositions are performed by the State Chamber Orchestra Sinfonietta Riga (conductor Normunds Šnē), the Latvian Radio Choir (conductor Kaspars Putniņš), the State Choir Latvija (conductor Māris Sirmais) and by many other performers and soloists.

 

 

 
Composers Kristaps Pētersons un Imants Mežaraups - winners of the Copyright Infinity Awards

This year two members of the Latvian Composers` Union - composers Kristaps Pēterons and Imants Mežaraups became winners of the Copyright Infinity Awards ("Autortiesību bezgalības balva"). As the most performed Classical music compositions in Latvia and abroad fixed the Symphony miniature "Chess" by Kristaps Pētersons and the piece for string orchestra "Musica arcuata" by Imants Mežaraups.
